Role Description
This role sits within the Technical Operations team which specialises in the systems administration and management of our large inventory of Linux based servers that enable Volo to deliver services to our ever-expanding customer base
Key Responsibilities

To deliver technical support to ensure that Volo’s systems run at their best. You will be supporting our customers and colleagues by;

  • Configuration of application environments
  • Troubleshooting application and system performance issues
  • Working through customer raised Support tickets assigned by other departments.
  • Triaging and the investigation of priority issues raised by 1st line Support
  • Operational management of server based application processing
  • Bash and SQL script writing
  • Alert software configuration
  • Initial Java exceptions analysis
  • Liaison with external service providers

The applicant will be required to undergo product training and to develop their knowledge to advanced levels to provide the required level of support;

  • Provide expert application advice to colleagues based on acquired technical understanding of the host environment
  • Be able to confidently support customers directly where required
  • Have the ability to make recommendations for technical improvement

Undertake tasks, on the Linux servers and MySQL databases

  • Configuration of Linux OS and MySQL environments
  • Investigation and testing of new OS software release requirements
  • Analysis of slow SQL queries
  • System monitoring and health checks
  • Execution of database updates via SQL
  • Preparation of release deployments
  • Configuration and management of cloud environments

To carry out various home based out of hours maintenance tasks and participate in a rota to provide weekend support

  • Release deployment support
  • OS patch deployment and product upgrades
  • Database migrations
  • Out of hours’ emergency technical support

Key Skills and Experience

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with an attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, adaptable, flexible team player
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good working knowledge of MySQL (Database design, configuration, administration, Queries and troubleshooting)
  • Linux OS (CentOS administration, installation, setups, commissioning, maintenance, housekeeping, services management and health checks)
  • Java (Application support, JMS, JVM)
  • Networking (Configuration / Firewall management / Load balance management TCP/IP analysis)
  • Scripting - Bash / Python
  • Security - VPN/TLS/Encryption

  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS - Design / Migration, AWS Management- EC2 / S3, Google Compute)
