Starlet Vintage: Reach for the stars

Anna Webb, Director and founder of Starlet Vintage, describes how her passion for all things vintage led to her own online boutique with just £50…

Since I started my online fashion business in 2005 I’ve seen flared jeans fall out of favour to skinny jeans, low waists give way to high lines, and I’ve witnessed the taste for retro style rise to rival mainstream trends. It’s not just the fashions that have evolved, but the marketplaces and the industry itself. Yet, while navigating the changes and challenges of running an online enterprise, one thing has remained the same: my partnership with Volo Commerce.

StarletVintage.co.uk is where my passion for vintage comes to life. I wanted to create an online world where lovers of the vintage aesthetic could indulge their own passions, and fashion their own interpretations of retro-romance.

Alongside vision and the support of my family based team, it’s Volo that helped to make that dream a reality. From the humble beginnings of my own hand-coded website and a fledgling eBay shop, my business really started to take-off when I enlisted the help of Volo. I wanted to spread my growing inventory across a wider range of marketplaces and countries, and I needed a more efficient and integrated order processing system. My business was galloping ahead, and eating up expanses of time with its ardent, organic growth.

I didn’t want to waste a moment longer with the “long hand” processes that we started out with, so I put my ear to the ground and started to research solutions.
Volo came highly recommended by my eBay account manager, and my own online research only served to concur: Volo, vehemently supported by its current customer base, was the answer.

Following from highly targeted training and implementation, where every care was taken to make our transition to Volo as smooth as possible, my family team and I felt supported and inspired in taking the next steps of sustainable growth, knowing that we were now part of a bigger family that comprised approachable technical experts who are always ready to help, as well as industry consultants who are keen to mentor multi-platform growth. Thanks to the help of the team and the reach provided by the platform our sales immediately increased by a third, and within two years had more than doubled.

The streamlining facilitated an even higher level of service, making for happier customers. The simpler, more intuitive processes, made for happier, if fewer staff – time saved on order processing and inventory management easily equated to the workload of two members of staff – giving my team more time to take care of our customers, and giving me more time to be creative with the brand and to focus on my original passion – vintage clothing.
